Before you, Bella, my life was a moonless night Very dark, but there were stars-points of light and reason... And then you shot across the sky like a meteor Suddenly everything was on fire There was brilliancy, there was beauty When you had gone, When the meteor had fallen over the horizon Everything went black Nothing had changed but my eyes were blinded by the light I couldn't see the stars anymore And there was no more reason for anything.
For one brief, never-ending second, an entirely different path expanded behind the lids of my tear-wet eyes. As if i were looking through the filter of Jacob's thoughts, I could see exacty what i was going to give up, exactly what this self-knowlage would not save me from losing. I could see years passing, meaning something as they changed me. I could see the enormous red-brown wolf that i loved, always standing protector if i needed him. For the tiniest fragment of a second i could see the bobbing heads of two, black-haired children running away from me into the familiar forest. When they disappeared, they took the rest of the vision with them.
