Open Door Policy
America wanted to be able to openly trade with China. Every country agreed with this except for China. China was against this and did not want foreigners coming into their country.
The Boxers Rebellion was a group of Nothern Chinease People. They believed that if they had the right diet and said certain prayers that they could eventually become immune to swords and bullets and that they would be able to fly.
Further, they popularly claimed that millions of spirit soldiers would descend from the heavens and assist them in purifying China of foreign influences. The Boxers consisted of local farmers/peasants and other workers made desperate by disastrous floods and widespread opium addiction, and found blame in Christian missionaries, Chinese Christians, and the Europeans colonizing their country.
The Chinese were very unhappy with the foreigners so they started to kill them and rebel against them.
