Biography Date of Birth-January 1, 1449 Date of Death-April 19, 1492 Born in Florence, Italy Nickname- ''Il Magnifico'' meaning ''The Magnificent He was a merchant and later became ruler of Florence. He loved writing poetry!!! Lorenzo was also very important in sculpture, architecture, and music. He knew Greek, Latin, and Italian.

Facts -Lorenzo was considered the ''Gran maestro'' or big shot and later on he was known as the ''Maestro della bottega'' meaning boss of the shop -His tutor was Priest Gentile Becchi -Lorenzo imported grain during a famine in Florence -He was almost assassinated when he was at church for mass but escaped with only minor injuries -He died due to kindey issues and the doctor who didnt save Lorenzos life was found in a well the next morning
Politics -He went to Ferindand I when he declared war on Florence but talked Ferindand -Helped to end the Pazzi conspiracy which killed Lorenzo's brother, Giuliano. So Pope Sixus IV excommunicated him -He was elected to the Council of One Hundred in 1466 -His grandfather helped him with politics and Lorenzo relied on many managers that were not very good
Patron of the Arts -Patron of Sandro Botticelli, Ghirlandaio, Filippino Lippi, Andrea del Verrochio, Michelangelo, and many others -Purchased Greek and Latin manuscripts to have them copied -He urged the use of Italian in liturature -Lorenzo was also a major contribution to Italian poetry
