Scabies

Cause: - Scabies is caused by Sarcoptes Scabiei var. Hominis, the human itch mite - Adult female scabies mites burrow into the upper layer of the skin, where they live and deposit their eggs
Transmission: - Most commonly transmitted through prolonged, direct, skin-to-skin contact with a person who is infected - Can sometimes be spread by sharing clothing or bedding with someone who is infected
Signs and Symptoms: - The most common symptom of scabies is intense itching, especially at night - Scabies can also be identified by its characteristic pimple-like rash
Complications: - The open sores left by a scabies rash can lead to bacterial infections, such as Staphylococcus Aureus
Treatments: - Scabies is usually treated with prescription lotions or creams that contain permethrin
Background Information: - Scabies is a contagious skin disease - It is found around the world among people of all age groups
Incubation Period: - Ranges from 1 to 8 weeks depending on the sensitivity of the person
Solution: - You should avoid skin to skin contact with people who have rashes or sores - Clean clothing and bedding on a regular basis
