9-11 Pentagon Attack
Luckily the section hit was newly renovated and had mostly unused office space.
American Airlines flight 77 started at Washington Dulles International Airport and was headed to Los Angeles International Airport before it was hijacked and quickly turned around to go the Pentagon.
At 10:10 the section above the impact zone collapsed
At 9:37 am, American Airlines Flight 77 flew into the western side of the Pentagon and exploded upon impact.
Of the buildings 3.8 million square feet, 2 million were damaged in some way. 400,000 square feet of the building was torn down as part of the reconstruction effort.
The Pentagon had been fully rebuilt in 2002 and occupants were moved back in shortly after.
During the attack 125 Pentagon workers were killed.
One of the most popular theories is that the building was hit by an explosive warhead. They think that the fire was buring to hot to be from the liquid fuel from the jet liner and the shape of the impact site is not right to be from a plane.
Of all the crash sites on 9-11, the Pentagon is still the one that brings up the most conspiracies. Many theorists believe that the impact zoone and crash pattern does not correlate with the size of the plane that is said to have hit the building.
The memorial to the people who died in the attacks was opened to he public in 2008 . It honors the 184 people that died (both in the Pentagon and on the plane). It includes 184 benches arranged by age.. The ones that died in the Pentagon face the West side where the plane hit. Those on board the plane facing skyward along the path the plane took..
