It connected the Great lakes to the Ocean.
Sailing time (normal conditions) between certain ports on the Great Lakes and the intersection of the Seaway ship channel and Montreal Harbor, using an average sailing time of 12 mph.
Since 1959, over 2.5 billion tons of cargo had been moved to of from Canada, the United State and nearly fifty other nations.
Construction for this project began 1954 and was completed in 1959.
There are about 12 port located along the seaway.
The waterway was built to aid International shipping.
Its connect to the ocean though a series of locks on the St. Lawrence River.
The St. Lawrence Seaway includes 13 Canadian and 2 U.S. locks.
