The Effects of Reconstruction
Very little good came out of Reconstruction. . Sure ammendments that abolished slavery, gave African Americans citizenship and the right to vote were poositive effects. But they had little effect on the South. ' Jim Crow Laws' or black codes limited the rights given to the African American people by the ammendments. In order to vote some former slave states made them take literacy tests or pay a 'poll tax' in order to be able to vote. In many states African Americans and Republicans in general would on occasion be beatten and lynched while a crowd spectated. Many groups like the Ku Klux Klan formed to harrass , and scare African Americans from voting at all. These groups terrozied many and held parades and lynching parties. Though Reconstruction was supposed to pull the country back together and make things better, some African Americans believed things were better for them before reconstruction. Before organizations like the Ku Klux Klan formed.
