Slavery Resistance, a fight for freedom
Resistance to slavery was an extremly important part in slaves eventauly earning freedom. It did this by being one of the major factors in starting the Civil War. The North winning the Civil War allowed slaves to be free. The reason why slaves resisted was because they knew that this treatment was wrong and unjust. and longed to have there own lives.
Slaves resisted slavery in many diffrent ways. Some just did small thing like working slowly, while others completly rebeled against there slave-owners and even took lives.
Here are some of the many ways that slaves resisted and faught against slavery.

This is the story of Nat Turner and his rebellion.
One of the main ways that slaves resisted slavery was escaping from their slave owners. The main way that slaves escaped was by using the Underground Railroad. The underground railroad was not actually a railroad but a path that slaves took to escape form there masters. Slaves would mostly travel on foot, but some took wagons, boats, and trains. On these paths there were people called conductors that lead the slaves to freedom. If these slaves did not escape and were captured, then the slave-owners would punish them. There were many amazing stories about slaves escaping thier owners. Here is a story
This is a short video about the Underground Railroad. Their are also other video links on this website containing information on how slavery impacted the civil war and other interesting topics.
Nat Turner was a slave that had a vision from God that told him to run away. Later he had a vison that told him to come back to the plantation. The last vision told him to rise above and fight back. Turner and six other slaves ventured off to the closest town Jerusalem. They gathered other followers for a total of about 40 men. On their trip they killed about 50 white men. This was one of the first rebellions slaves did.
The Negro Fort was an abandoned British fort. It was inhabbited by 800 black refuges. Later the British fought the refuges for it and achieved their goal of getting it back.
This is a picture ifHarriet Tubman. She was an extremely important part in the Underground Railroad. Harriet was a runaway slave that helped other slaves escape. Many people did this and they were called conductors. Harriet helped slaves escape to the north by doing things like giving them a place to stay for the night or transporting them to another conductor.
''They tear him from circling arms, Her last and fond embrace. Oh! never more may her sad eyes Gaze on his mournful face. No Marvel, then, these bitter shrieks disturb the listening air: She is a mother, and her heart Is breaking in despair.'' -Frances Ellen Watkins Harper, ''The Slave Mother''
''The moment the slave resolves that he will no longer be a slave, his fetters fall. Freedom and slavery are mental states.” -Mahatma Gandhi
Another amazing story is the story of Frederick Douglass. He was taught by his slave owner to read and right. He eventually ran away from his slave-owners. Fredrick was an amazing writer and wrote in a newspaper about all the terrible injustices that he faced as a slave. He helped people realize how wrong slavery was.
One of the ways that slaves resisted slavery was through passive resistnace. These were just little things like working slowly and messing up the harvest but they became an extremly effective way of resisting slavery.
