4-H is a positive youth development organization that empowers young people to reach their full potential. A vast community of more than 6 million youth and adults working together for positive change, 4-H enables America’s youth to emerge as leaders through hands-on learning, research-based 4-H youth programs and adult mentorship, in order to give back to their local communities.
4-H Has Something For Everyone 4-H promotes learning of skills for life that includes things normally done on a farm, such as mechanics, animal husbandry, sewing, cooking, electricity and similar topics. There are many topics that you can participate in with the support of the agricultural extension service in your state. 4-H isn't only for farm kids, though! There are projects, such as Aerospace, Cake Decorating, Computers, Environmental Sciences, Health/Fitness, Robotics, Photography, Theater, Veterinary Science, and others that appeal to city kids, too! Junior Leadership for those who are a bit older and have been in 4-H for a few years offers opportunities to get more involved in 4-H, and trips that are awarded for outstanding 4-H work are also available. There are Public Speaking and Demonstration contests, too! One of the best things about 4-H is that it's truly an equal opportunity organization! You don't have to be popular or in the in crowd to shine and succeed in 4-H, so you control your destiny and how well you do!
4-H Animal Programs are open to all youth - with or without farm backgrounds. As a 4-H member, you can learn about animal care by participating in events, shows, and hands-on projects.
