Mycobacterium Tuberculosis
The structure is rod shaped and the cell wall is 60% lipids. They are 2-4 micrometers long and are in the eubacteria family because they have one cell and are microscopic.
It gets spread from someone with active TB in their body. Breathing it in causes a person to get it. It cannot live long on surfaces. It cannot be killed by air fresheners, unlike the common belief. We can kill it using UV rays, so the sun kills it.
Harmful or Helpful? This bacteria is harful because it infects our bodies. It makes us feel very sick. It is an acid fast bacterium. There is a treatment though. You can take pills and do physical therapy for 6-9 months.
Prevention Keep up your immune system and get tested regularly to prevent Tuberculosis.
Edgar Allen Poe wrote his famous poem Annabel Lee about his love dying of Tuberculosis or Consumption as it used to be called.
There are many different forms of Tuberculosis-like diseases including Mycobacterium bovis which affects cows.
