Karly's Culinary Creations
EMPLOYEES I will have eight employees total. I will need one or two employees in the front of the store at all times. Two employees in the kitchen in order to bake and create the cakes. And one employee who is working on keeping things neat and orderly in the bakery. The employees working in the front of the store will start by make $9, the employees in the kitchen will be starting at $13.50 and the employee who works to keep things neat will be making $8.25 to start out. As these employees are part of my company they will work their way up and probably start making more money for every year they are working with Karly’s Culinary Creations. We are open 74 hours a week. $666 for the front of store, $999 for the kitchen, and $610.50 for the cleaner per week. Over all $2,275.50 per week to pay the employees. We would need to make $350 a day in order to be able to pay the employees, but to have enough money for products needed to produce the cakes we would need to make about $700 a day.
CHART Type of Business: Bakery Company Name: Karly’s Culinary Creations Merchandise: I will be selling cakes Target Audience: My cakes will be for people of all genders, ages, income levels, education levels, and residences. I would like to believe that my customer base will expand once the word of how delicious my cakes are gets around. Items/ merchandise: I will be selling birthday cakes, wedding cakes, anniversary cakes, and cakes for any other occasion! Competition: The three nearest direct competitors are Filigree Cakes, Rockwell’s Bakery, Sensational Cakes. The indirect competitors are Bristol Farms (a gourmet grocery store in the area), Corner Bakery(sells baked goods), Knott’s Barry Farm Bakery(Theme Park with Bakery) Market growth: At this point the market is not growing due to the economy, although the one store that I do have open is doing well.

REFLECTION Although this project has made me realize just how difficult and expensive it would be to start a business, I think that someday when I do have the money and once I am done with school that I would love to actually open a bakery of my own. It has been a dream of mine to have a bakery to own a bakery for a long time. I believe that once I have gone through the right schooling or if I don’t do that and decide to find a partner to start it with me that I would be a successful business owner. I chose to do this project on a bakery because it is something that I am interested in looking more into later on in my life. I would want the position of owning and running the bakery. Also, I would want to be able o participate in all of the baking and decorating of the cakes.
BUDGET AND SHOP In order to open up my bakery and start my business off I will get a loan. To begin I will need about $250,000, this will be for rent, ovens, tables, kitchen ware, cake and frosting ingredients, and more. I will need to allot $25,000 for ingredients. About $100,000 for equipment. For my 800 square foot bakery rent would cost about $30,000 for the first year, and then $2,500 per month after that.
