Garvey - Parole officer of Cole, belongs to the tribe of the Tlingit Indians. Edwin - Tlingit Elder that gets supplies for Cole on the island; he knows Garvey. Cole's Mom - She is afraid of her ex-husband and is an alcoholic. She used to care more about her appearance than the safety of her son then later in the book she begins to care for Cole. Cole Mattews is a angry abused chiled. When he beats up a 9th grade kid named peter, peter gets mentaly retarded when cole smashes his head on the cement. Then he is told he can go to jail or a year on a remote island. And he burns down the shelter that is made for him, and gets mauled by a spirit bear. when he goes back to the island he has to build his own shelter. and when peter trys to comite suicide cole has him brought to the island. And the become friends!!!!The setting is on an remote island in alaska! The year is 2007-2008! The theme is that being a bully is not OKAY!!!I recomend this book to anone that likes to read!!
