Alexander the Great conquered Turkmenistan in the 4th century BC on his journey to Central Asia. This happened during the time the Silk Road became a major trading route between the Mediterranean Region and Asia. Turkmenistan is currently much unmapped, and not even known to Europe and the western world! It has a GDP growth rate of 11% in 2010, 4th in the world. For every thousand people there are, nineteen are born and six die. As far as births: 42 deaths/1,000 live births. AIDS deaths are fewer than 100 and above 98% of the population (4,997,503) are literate. There’s no school life expectancy. The median age is 25. Turkmenistan has a labor force of 2.3 million people. Imperialism seemed to help Turkmenistan.
In the late 1900’s Uzbekistan was conquered by Russia. They were under strict control until Sunday, September 01, 1991 when they created a republic. Uzbekistan has a birth rate of 17.43 for every 1,000, but 5.29 for every thousand die. There is a 21.92 for every 1,000 infant mortality rate in Uzbekistan. There is a very good 99.3% literacy rate in this country as well as a school life expectancy of 11 years. Their per capita GDP is $3,100 and a 36% urbanization rate. Their country consists of 88% Muslims, 9% Eastern Orthodox, and 3% other religions. Uzbekistan seems to have been helped by being under rule of imperialism.
The name “Russia” comes from the Rus people, a Swedish Viking group who founded the state. One would think Russia would be one of the most populated countries (or at least I did). But in reality, Russia is ninth in the world with a population of 138,739,892. The median age is almost 39 years old. There are 11 births and 16 deaths per 1,000 people. The GDP growth rate is 3.8%. Russia is in debt: 9.5% of GDP. 1% of the country has AIDS. 99.4% of the country is literate. They have a school life expectancy of 14 years. The labor force is 75.5 million people.
Kyrgyzstan is a smaller country to the west of the Peoples Republic of China and south of Kazakhstan. This now independent county since August 31, 1991 had gained their independence from the former Soviet Union. This republic country holds elections for presidency every five years with a maximum of two terms. Like most other countries in that general area Kyrgyzstan’s leading 75% of the population is Muslim, 20% of the population is Russian Orthodox, while the remaining 5% is a mix of many other religions. Urbanization is at 35%, while the per capita gross domestic product is about 2200 U.S. dollars. The amount of years a Kyrg has to go to school is 12 years, just like here in the U.S. The literacy rate directly shows how well schooling is going, with it at 98.70% of the population being completely literate. Birth rate is roughly 23.66 new baby’s for every 1000 Kyrgs, although 29.27 out of every thousand die each year. The death rate is about 6.79 out of a thousand Kyrgs each year.
Imperialism seemed to help all the countries we researched. They all have high GDP’s and seem to have a good economy. Three out of four’s birthrates are higher than their death rates, and they all seem to have a pretty good schooling system. Imperialism actually may have had a good lasting effect on these few countries.
