Linear equations are equations of lines. One linear equation is y=mx+b, slope intercept form, where b is the y-intercept (where the line hits the y axis) and m is slope. Slope is how steep the line is. To find slope from a graph, you look at two dots. You see how many spaces you rise, and put that over how many spaces over you go. Slope intercept form is the form you put your linear equation in if you want to graph it. The slope for this equation is:
Another form is point-slope form. It goes: y-y1=m(x-x1) This form is useful because it is easy to turn into slope intercept form, and you don't need to know the y-intercept to write it. Here's an example: You know a point that is in your line, (3,4), and you know that your slope is 2. y-y1=m(x-x1) y-3=2(x-4) y-3=2x-8 +3 +3 y=2x-5
