Chloroplast: an organelle found in plant and algae cells where photosynthesis occurs
Chromoplast: Plastid containing color of pigments that may or may not take part in photosynthesis
A chloroplast is a plastid It's function is to use light energy to make carbohydrates from carbon dioxide and water. It Contains flattened membranous sacs called thylakoids
The thylakoid contains chlorophyll which absorbs light and captures light energy for the cell
The parts of the chloroplast are the double membrane layer, the stroma, the intermembrane space and the granum which are stacks of thylakoids. The ways these are situated in the organelle is because of its function of making carbohydrates and the chlorophyll within its function of photosynthesis
Carrot root cellls (left) contain chromoplasts filled with carotene, a pigment to make the carrot orange (right)
The function of a chromoplast is that by containing a colorful pigmment, they provide color to plants such as flowers or carrots
