Endoplasmic Reticulum
Rough ER
Smooth ER
Endoplasmic Reticulum: system of membranous tubes and sacs called cisternae.
Function: Pathway where molecules move from one part of the cell to another.
Rough ER: system of interconnected flattend sacs that are covered in ribosomes. Produces phospholipids and proteins. Most abundant in cells that produce alot of protein to export. ex) cells in digestive glands, antibody-producing cells
Smooth ER: Smooth texture because it lacks ribosomes. Most cells have very little smooth ER. Produces.... Lipids. ex) chelesterol. Steroid hormones. ex) estrogen, testosterone.
