-Rome heavily influenced by Greek culture -324. B.C. Rome still didn't control much of Italy & the city was still struggling with friction between the rich & the common people -By the end of the 4th centurty there were 3 great powers controlling the war East of Rome. -Macedonian Greeks conquered Greek mainland & peninsula -Hellenistic-Greek world was not seen to be a Roman threat -Antiochus III begain siezing territories in Palastine -Philip began siezing territories in Aegean Sea and Asia Minor -Rome fought Phillip during the 2nd Punic War & demanded that he stop siezing Greek territory -Philip refused; Rome made a army with Flaminius & in 200 B.C. began the Macedonian War -Philip died; in 179 B.C. Persus takes over -Flaminius defeated Tessaly 3 years later -Rome invaded Greece again in 3rd Macedonian War -Defeat of Persus involved a lot of stealing of the conquered cities

How Greece Falls To Rome
-Numerous Greek cities on Italian peninsula -Hellenistic empires not seen as a threat -Romans not interested in world domination -Rome almost destroyed in 2nd Punic War -Romans didn't seize any territories at the battle of Magnesia -Rome had become a huge money making & empire building machine - 196 B.C Flaminius declared that all Greek cities to be free -Romans thought that free Greek city states were no longer a threat -3rd Macedonian War, Rome didn't sieze territory, but they gained control of the native control-All this wealth in Rome created old tensions between the social classes; Roman Republic lived in a state of crisis for over 100 years.
-Christianity made a lot of Roman citizens into pacificts - harder to defend against barbarian attacks - Money was used to build churches, could've been used to maintain the empire -Public health & environmental problems - water brought to home by lead pipes ( aqueducts had been purified, but lead was thought to be better ; high death rate in wealthy class ) -People who lived on the streets - constant contact with disease -Farmers who paid workmen couldn't produce goods cheaply - many lost their farms -Cities couldn't be maintained without the goods from farms & businesses started to disappear -Emperor had to import grain to feed 100,000 people -Increasng crime rate
How Rome Falls To Rome! OMG!
-Gold was being spent on luxury items - less gold to use in coins - coins became less valuable - merchants raised the prices on their goods - people started to barter instead of buy what they needed -Salaries paid in food & clothing and taxes paid in food & clothing -Maintaining a army to defend border of Empire - constant struggle for govt -Empire started hiring the unemployed & foreign people to be in army - unreliable and expensive - emperors had to raise taxes often which led to inflation -Military spending left few resources for pubic housing & maintaining roads/aqueducts -186 A.D. army strangled new Emperor & then being emperor was sold to the highest bidder -Next 100 years - 37 different Emperors - 25 killed by assassination
- Rome was heavily influenced by the Greek culture. Today U.S.A. has the same traditions as countries all over the world, because people from all over live here. -Greek aristocrats thought that Rome was a very powerful place and very influential. The aristocrats today in the U.S.A. think the same thing, but about themselves. Today, everyone thinks that the U.S.A. is the best, and everyone else is just inferior. -In Greek, their arstocrats lived for their reputation and to party it up all the time. Today, that is clearly the way it is, also. Everyday you can see a different celebrity, or elite individual on the front page of a magazine drinking and dancing, and sometimes getting in trouble.
- In Rome, the poor people who had to live on the streets, were in constant contact with disease and poor living conditions, just like the poor and homeless living today. -In Rome, farmers had to pay their workmen to tend to their farms, but when no one would want to work on their farms, the price of fruits, vegetables, and grain rose. Today, farmers are having the same problem. This year, very few tomato seeds were purchased, because last year there was no hired help to pick the tomato fields, so tomatoes are going to cost a lot more next spring then they did this year. -Style of Roman art and architecture varied a lot between the cultures like today; today the Mexicans have a different form of art then African Americans.
-Once Romans stopped conquering new lands, flow of gold in Romes economy decreasd -Romans relied so much on human &animal labor, they didn't invent new machines or find any new technology -3rd century A.D.- Roman soldiers started fighting a war in Italy & gradually Germanic hunter began to overtake Roman lands in Greece & Gaul -In 476 A.D.general overthrough Augustus Romulus
