This painting shows Rebirth because once again advancements were being made in art. Bodies were drawn more realistic, there was more color, more nature, vanashing points, and a highly realistic linear perspective.
Disgusted with the conditions of his time, stung by those who said that a sculptor could not paint, and forced to begin the work against his will, Michelangelo painted the series backward, starting with the Drunkenness of Noah as typical of the day. This series of paintings beat his rivals at their own game. This painting is one of the most well-known and famous artworks of all time, and has been the subject of a number of references and parodies. On the poster for the movie E.T, ET's hand touching that of a boy was modeled after this painting. Even the Simpsons parodied the work in "The Homer of Seville".
The Creation of Adam is the 4th panel in the series of 9 which is painted across the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel, by Michelangelo. It illustrates the Biblical story from the Book of Genesis in which God the Father breathes life to Adam, the first man.
