Sculpture
Venus de Milo is one of the most famous works of ancient Greek sculpture. It is believed to depict Aphrodite, the Greek goddess of love and beauty. It is thought to be the work of Alexandros of Antioch and her arms have been lost for an unknown reason.

Venus de Milo shows how the human body started to become more detailed, a big part of Rebirth. Sculptors became highly interested in the human body and much artwork depicted the human figure and shape.
The Greek gods and goddesses were very important to the Greek people during this time. Their importance is seen in many of thier legends and art. This sculpture is a tribute showing respect to Aphrodite. Besides the fame for the mystery of her broken arms, in 1815, France had returned the Medici Venus to the Italians after it had been looted from Italy by Napoleon Bonaparte. The Medici Venus, regarded as one of the finest Classical sculptures in existence, caused the French to promote the Venus de Milo as a greater treasure than The Medici Venus. It is praised by artists and critics as the epitome of graceful female beauty. It is at present on display at the Louvre Museum in Paris.
