Pork-Barrel Project- that primarily benefits the home district or state . All members work to give constituents a share in the money the national government spends every year.
Cloture - procedure used in the senate to limit debate on a bill. The Senate can end a filibuster if three-fifths of the members vote for cloture.
Lobbyists- representatives of an interest group who contacts lawmakers or other government officails directly to influence their policy making. Their job is to handle requests for help from voters.
Filibuster - a tactic for defeating a bill in the Senate by talking until the bill's sponsor withdraws it. One member can speak-- holding the floor for hour after hour delaying a vote until the bill's sponsor withdraws the measure.
Pocket Veto- The President's power to kill a bill, if Congress is not in session, by not signing it for ten days.
veto- is a refusal to sign a bill or resolution . After the bill is approved it goes to the president. He can choose to veto it.
