My Interview
My interviewee's name is Alejandro Garcia, but he likes to be called Alex by most people. I call him dad. My dad is an information technology project coordinator. In order to have his present job, he first had to go to college to earn his information technology degree. Then he went to business school to better prepare himself and be able to move to higher level positions within the company. Q: Where were you & what were you doing at my age? A: I was in high school being a ladies' man. Q: What was high school like then? A: High school wasn't as advanced as it is now. It was more manual, labor intensive, and primitive, but it wasn't as comprehensive and broad as it is now. Back then they to type assignments on a typewriter instead of a computer. Q: How do you perceive high school to be different now? A: Technology has made student life a lot simpler. For example, you can get your whole education without leaving your home, known as homeschooling or online schooling. Research is more convient due to easy access. Although, high school more demanding now because of the easy access. Q: What were some things you enjoyed as a teen that we don't have now? A: There was not as much exposure to violence as there is now. Life was more family oriented, and there was more peace of mind. Q: What did you want to do with your life when you were my age? A: I wanted to go to flying school and become a pilot. Q: What kind of student were you, & how did that effect who you are today? A: I was completely uninterested in school. That made me realize that I could have had more benefits if I would have done what I was supposed to in high school. Q: Did you have any high points or low points that were defining moments in your life? A: The high points would be the birth of my children, completing my educational goals, and living with my children. The low point is the ongoing issues of my unsettled divorce. Q: When your were a teen, did you have any interests that you still have as an adult? A: I would have to say to live a comfortable lifestyle. Q: Are your friends the same as you had in high school? A: No. Q: When did you realize what you wanted to do? A: About fifteen years ago. Q: What obstacles did you overcome to get to where you are today? A: Learning a different language in a foreign country in a very short period of time, adapting to cultural differences, and earning an education. Q: What has been the key to achieving the goals you've reached in your life? A: Persistance, hard work, love for my children, not taking no for an answer, and determination. Q: As you look back on your teen years, what would you do differently? A: I would concentrate on doing what i was suppoded to do, which was to study hard, respect and take care of my body and soul, and be a good son, brother, and friend. Q: If you had one piece of advice to young people, what would it be? A: To love yourself so you can nuruture yourself to become who you want to be one day.
