FORESHADOWING At the beginning of the book, Janie tells Pheoby that she just came back from burying the dead. That gave the reader a clue that during her flashback, someone was going to die and Janie was going to end up burying them.
''Tain't dat ah worries over Joe's death, Pheoby. Ah jus' loves dis freedom.'' (pg.89)
SETTING Shows they lived in small villages in the country and having money can give you land, nice belongings and respect.
LANGUAGE: The Language shows that many of the citizens weren't well-educated due to the fact that they wrote words based on the way it sounds.
