Who Was Involved?
The battle was fought between the north (Union) and the south (Confederacy).
Who were the commanders?
On the Union side the major commanders were: Major General Ulysses S. Grant and Major General Don Carlos Buell. On the Confederate side the major commanders were: General Albert Sidney Johnston and General P.G.T. Beauregard.
After Math Union Victory Casualties (Union)- 1,754 dead, 8,408 wounded, 2,885 missing/captured. Confederates- 1,728 dead, 8,012 wounded, 959 missing/wounded.
The Battle was faught in Hardin County, Tennessee along the Tennessee River (western side of river) april 6th and 7th 1862.
Location and Date
On April 6th General Johnston (CSA) attacked General Grant (USA) and forced him to retreat north. On April 7th General Buell arrived with rienforcements for General Grant. With Beauregard now in command of the confederates were forced to retreat from the overwhleming numbers of the combined forces of both Generals Grant and Buell. the battle resulted in a Union (north) victory.
