The crusades were at first a sucsess. Many knights were motivated to fight for the church, and kings loved the chance to gain new land. But in turn many Jews/ Muslims were killed, severing all ties between the religions.
The crusades were holy wars during the 12th centuriy as the Papacy tried to reclaim the holy land from Muslims. Not only was this a great way to unify the Catholic Church, it allowed Men and Knights to leave their old lifes befind and go off to gain power and riches.
why? why?
The Crusades
While the first Crusade may have been a sucsess, the rest were anything but. By the time The 4th crusade came along, the knights were so careless that they ended up destroying their own city of Constantinople. The results of the crusades lead to the death of trade between the East and West.
