One of the many motives of the Spanish conquistadors was to find things that might have benefitted them. The conquistadors were looking for gold, silver, and spices, because it brought them a lot of wealth. However, apart from the wealth from the gold, silver, and spice trades... the Spanish conquistadors did have other motives. An example of this would be staying there to increaseopportunitiesfor Spanish trade. They wanted to hold their power position, keep prestige, and focus on building a Spanish Empire. They also wanted to convert the natives to Catholicism, which is why priests traveled along side the other military leaders.
The parties involved with the conquest of the Americas were the Spanish conquistadors and the Native Indians. The Spanish conquistadors treated the Native Indians like savage and pagan. When the Encomienda system, similar to the Medieval Fuedal system, was established in the New World's government, the Native Indians were oppressed as ever. The plan of the conquistadors was to convert the Native Indians into Catholicism, and then be paid a tribute for the protection and religious instruction. However, though it wasn't the original intention of the conquistadors, the Native Indians ended up losing their freedom, rights, culture, and religion. The Native Indians were oppressed, abused, and exploited by the Spanish conquistadors. Even though the Encomienda system was replaced by the new laws in 1542, the Spanish Conquistadors are still hated and feared by the Native Indians today.
The conquest of the Americas affected politics, religion, societies, and economies. It affected thing politically because the government was changed to the Encomienda system. There were religious and societal affects, because the conquistadors wanted to convert everyone to Catholicism, and the Native Indians were not okay with this. Spain's economy was affected by this too, because through the conquest, Spain had power and prestige, wealth from the gold, silver, and spice trading, and more trading opportunities in general.
The conquistadors were the Spanish soldiers, leaders, explorers, and adventurers who were a part of the conquest of the Americas during the 16th century.
