Africans affected small towns and cities by demanding the same rights as whites. During all the wars, they didnt have much rights. They slept in different barracks, They had segregation in training camps, they ate in seperate mess halls apart from the whites. The navy limited African American duties to cooking, cleaning rooms, and shining shoes. Race riots broke out in many cities across the country. They fought their way through manny battles to achieve the same rights. Now, black and whites are helping each other through hard times. They see each others pain and want to help each other. Now cities are running smoothly without discrimination and people being racist. Many African Americans lead a march to stop discrimination to get more opportunities. Also the Armed Services gave more black the opportunity to engage in combat and become officers. (Krause 1)
The African American community in the United States resolved on a Double V Campaign: Victory over fascism abroad, and victory over discrimination at home. Large numbers migrated from poor Southern farms. Racial tensions were high in overcrowded cities like Chicago; Detroit and Harlem experienced race riots in 1943. From then on, African Americans were fighting side by side during World War 2. At home, whites and African Americans were supporting each other and helping them fight through the pain. (Lee Vann 1)
