Muslim art is one of the best examples of cultural diffusion in the Muslim Empire. The drawing of living creatures was strongly discouraged because Muslim religious leaders thought that people might worship the images rather than Allah, and Allah was the only one that could create living things. Most Muslim artists turned to calligraphy to express themselves. They saw calligraphy as a way to reflect the glory of Allah. Some Muslim art used only geometric patterns.
Ramadan is the ninth on Islamic calendar. During Ramadan, Muslims must fast from sunup to sundown, and only eat a simple meal after sundown. This will fulfill one of the Five Pillars of Islam. Ramadan is a full fast, so Muslims should not eat, drink, smoke, etc. during Ramadan. The purpose of Ramadan is spiritual discipline, to prove that a person's spiritual needs are greater than the physical, and should not endanger someone's health. The end of Ramadan comes when the waxing crescent moon is spotted in the sky.
The Hajj, also known as the pilgrimage to Mecca, must be taken by all Muslims that are physically and financially able at least once. The Hajj makes a Muslim a complete Muslim. The Hajj is one of the Five Pillars of Islam. People will give Alms to the poor so that they may complete the Hajj. Once pilgrims arrive at Mecca, they must complete several acts of worship. The Hajj teaches Muslims the origins of their faith and the fulfillment of the act of prayer.
All Muslims must pray five times a day while facing Mecca. They pray in the morning, at noon, afternoon, at sunset, and night. The call to pray is given by the minaret. You cannot ask for a personal favor during prayer. The worship place may not contain any furniture or pictures because Muslims pray with their eyes open.
