King James I of England
James I was a king of Scotland who would become king of England. He was a ruler for nearly his entire life, becoming king of Scotland at just over one year old. As king of England he kept peace, lowered taxes, and attempted to unite the kingdoms of England and Scotland. He advanced the Protestant English faith as well, having the King James Bible named after him. Though many of his followers were happy with the way he ruled, it is easy to say that he was a less than stellar ruler. He was known to neglect his kingly duties for leisure sports like hunting and his strong belief in the divine rights of kings would eventually lead to an English Civil War under the rule of his heir Charles I.
