There are several different types of tweeter available. A cone tweeter has the appearance of a typical loudspeaker - a paper speaker within a metal frame - but is made with a lighter, thinner cone that can move rapidly and has a firmer suspension to repress movement at lower frequencies. A dome tweeter uses a light voice coil, the center of the speaker, within a light dome made of coated cloth or thin metal such as neodymium or titanium. Cone tweeters are more economical, while the costlier dome tweeters have more accurate sound reproduction.
A small driver dedicated to high-frequency reproduction. Cone tweeters are efficient and the most economical. Most home speakers use dome or edge-drive tweeters. They disperse sound over a wider area for smoother, more accurate reproduction. ''Tweeters are made from a variety of materials: paper, aluminum, titanium, or synthetic films such as polyetherimide (PEI) or Kaladex (polyethylene naphthalate). It's best to listen to a variety of tweeters to determine which one you prefer.''
