Beowulf
Beowulf's army contrasting with today's armed forces
The Fyrd Anglo-Saxon Army The lowest rank were the peasants called Fyrdmen. Distinguished by their lack of armor (usually could not afford it). Carried a wooden shield and a long spear for long distance and a small axe for short distance combat. Noblemen had better armor, weaponry, and helmets. The elite among the noblemen and whole Anglo-Saxon Army were the Housecarls or Companions, who were the Kings household guards.
Reason to Serve For the Anglo-Saxons to join the army was a chance to let your name be remembered. If you werent a poet the only fame you would recieve would be to become a war hero. Those who want to join the U.S. Armed Forces wish to do so to pay for college, to travel, to continue the family tradition, and to fight for the rights/ freedoms of our country.
U.S.A Armed Forces 5 branches - not including the Reserves U.S. Army U.S. Marine Corps U.S. Navy U.S. Air Force U.S. Coast Guard
Females are also allowed to serve!
In each individual branch of the military there are different uniforms and badges that are worn. The Army is known for their camoflauge due to the need to blend in Weapons range from something as simple as a sword to the most high tech Army Tank.
