Circularity of life and the seasons The fact that the first stanza represents early autumn, the second represents mid autumn, and the last represents the approaching of Winter. Winter is the season when life in nature dies, Keats tries to prevent this from happening, but just like death, it is inevitable.
Tactile Is most evident in the first stanza. 'bend',''swell','plump','budding; all signs of permanence, maturation, fullness and completeness. Onomatopoeia also can be seen in first stanza, 'dayS...beeS...will never ceaSe ..cellS' sounds like the buzzing of bees. Busy autumn, preparing for winter.
Visual Most commonly used in the second stanza. "winnowing wind", "twined flowers","patient look" Alliteration of winnowing wind indicates movement. It helps the effect of imagery. Keats tries to show how nature is full of movement.
Stanza 2- elongating vowel sound 'oozing hours boy hours'- it prolongs the stanza Ode has 11 lines instead of the usual 10, rhyming couplet on the 9th and 10th lines. As if Keats wnated to extend his life, Wants static, so nobody dies.
To Autumn Personification Ode Iambic Pentameter
The neverending cycle of seasons. Autumn represents when things are harvested, while the rest begin to die. THe falling of the leaves indicate the approach to death, like how Keats suffered from tuberculosis. First stanza is September, second is October, Third is November. The three months of Autumn.
Sound, Auditory The last stanza focuses on noises and sounds made by nature. 'Wailful choir','mourn','sing','whistles','twitter' Stanza 3 represents the fading of life. It is very valedictory, how Autumn is saying farewell. For nature, it will repeat its course. The same cycle will always happen in the same way, every living thing has to bid farewell, die in the end.
