This past weekend I took a break from South Beach world and drove across Alligator Alley to Naples. This part of 75 cuts through the Everglades and transported me back in time. All of the vehicles are caged in while the wildlife gets to roam free... an opposite zoo like effect. This stretch of land seems to have been forgotten... left alone. I can't exactly put my finger on it... I feel like they are behind the times, ignoring the times, or maybe even ahead of said times. So after 30 minutes of driving it finally hit me... Alligator Alley is an escape from the advertising world... Where your brain can just roam free... No inspiration or "product noise" to get in the way. There isn't a billboard, gas station, fast food, and only a rare rest stop. Your mind is free to come up with whatever it dreams. And it scared me. I miss my inspiring South Beach advertising. I need the really bad billboards to make me think of better ones... I need the slogans to anticipate my next project... I'm never the one to waste time so I decided for the next 2 hours to use clouds as my advertising inspiration... Kind of like Mother Nature's own campaign.
