The Silk Road
The Silk Roads were trade networks that connected Asia to Europe. They were important because it had many different trade routes to travel by.
There were many important items traded along the Silk Road, such as, silk, ivory, gold, and food items - carrots and pomegranates.
The Silk Road contained three major routes leading westward. The Northern route ran westward from China to the Black Sea; the southern route led to Afghanistan, Iran, and India; and the central route led to Persia and the Mediterranean Sea.
The Silk Roads had a major impact for people who lived in Asia, Africa, and Europe. People used it as a source of trade to gain and sell items. Also, people used different animals to travel. Most importantly, people used the road for information, different technologies, and religion were brought with travelers.
The Silk Road used the Great Wall of China and was built in part to protect its route from bandits
Marco Polo, Kublai Khan, and Genghis Khan were famous travelers who explored the Silk Road.
Another experience that occurred was that Silk was kept a secret from the west until the 6th century, until a Christian moink took caterpillar eggs out of China, which was used in the process of making Silk.
