NYC in the 20's
Old memories in New York City
New York City was a hot spot for African Americans during the Great Migration from the south. This helped the Harlem Renaissance thrive. The Roaring 20's also saw the development of the skyline. It also saw NYC become the populous urbanized city in the world, beating out London.
The original Yankee Stadium was built in 1923.
Unemployment was under 7% and the standard of living increased, but the great migration caused a labor surplus and fewer improvements for wages and working situations. NYC overcame space limitations by building underground water, sewer, power lines. The crowded roads caused the city to build more bridges and highways. However, some of the construction was put off due to the great depression.
