"Skinner Box" Rat Theory
Reinforcing stimuli is a stimulus that strengthens or weakens the behavior producing it. It can strengthen if given positive reinforcement, or weaken if given negative reinforcement.
In this situation, positive reinforcement was used every time the action of pulling the lever was enacted. However, if food had stopped coming when the level was pulled, that would have caused negative reinforcement.
