About This Person: Bert Reynolds From All Movie Guide: Charming, handsome, and easy-going, lead actor and megastar Burt Reynolds originally hailed from Waycross, GA, and entered the world on February 11, 1936. He attended Florida State University on a football scholarship, and became an all-star Southern Conference halfback, but - faced with a knee injury and a debilitating car accident - switched gears from athletics to college drama. In 1955, he dropped out of college and traveled to New York, in search of stage work, but only turned up occasional bit parts on television, and for two years he had to support himself as a dishwasher and bouncer. Go to Complete Biography:
The Pontiac Firebird was a pony car built by the Pontiac division of General Motors between 1967 and 2002. The Firebird was introduced the same year its platform-sharing cousin, the Chevrolet Camaro. This coincided with the release of the Mercury Cougar, which shared its platform with another well-known pony car, the Ford Mustang. The vehicles were, for the most part, powered by various V8 engines of different GM divisions. While primarily Pontiac-powered until 1977, Firebirds were built with several different engines from nearly every GM division until 1982 when all Pontiac motors were dropped in favor of corporate motors.
Pontiac Trans Am This is a picture of my own 1978 2nd Generation Trans Am. Which I bought in October 2004 from ebay It has a 6.6 litre V8 Oldsmobile engine, 3-speed auto, special edition decals and a tan interior. Aesthetically the same as the model used in the first Smokey and the Bandit movie, although that was a 1977 model. The film made use of five modified 1977 Pontiac Trans-Ams that were each built according to the required stuntwork. All were damaged during the rigors of filming the stunts.
