By removing the mental aspects of life from the physical, it allowed scientist to think of matter as an inanimate object, studying it souly on reason.
Cartesian Dualism- ''the mind cannot be doubted but the body and material world can, the two must be radically different.'' Rene Descartes created the principal of seperating mind from matter. He went against the beliefe that science was based on probablity, saying he had a method for finding certainty- which should be the only basis for science and human knowlage.

Books: Discourse on Method- he creates the basis of "fact" for modern science, talking and dismembering skepticism. Meditations on First Philosphy- he discards all things that are not completely certain, and build up truth from there. The World- this book supported and added to Copernicus's theory on the world and how the heavens were arranged. however after seeing the prosecution Copernicus received, he delayed publishing his book
