Put Russia on the road to becoming a modern power.
Peter the Great
Peter fought many wars to expand Russia's territory. He wanted a warm water port in the Balic sea so Russia could be able to transport goods and communicate to the west.
Peter the Great help Russia to become a more modernized region. When Peter the Great came into power, Russia was still a mid-evil state. Peter longed for Russia to become a westernized state. He visited Europe to experience their clothes, attude and way of life.
He fought the Ottoman Empire and Sweeden for more land, and a warm water port. At first, his army was huge, and horrible. Then after he got defeated by the Sweedish force (which was a third of a size of his army) he decided to make a storng army and a navy to make Russia's power stronger. Finally, in 1709, he won his warm water port in the Baltic sea. After peter won his port, and some land, he made a new capital of Russia, St. Petersburg was a beautiful westernized city. It moved Russia out of mid-evil times.
Peter's Goals: -strengthen the military -make Russia even bigger -expand royal power
How Peter achieved his goals: -Boyers would either work for him or lose thier land -made people wear western clothes and cut thier beards -began dafting men into the military
