They typical use of memory sticks are to save work on the go. Like for example you might do some work at home then you save it on your memory stick, then you could continue to work on it at the work place.

They are typical more expensive than other storage devices when it just came out.
Advantages of Flash drive:

They can transfer data much more faster than any other type of storage device as it solid state.
They have a much higher capacity compared to CDs, Floppy and some more.
Data can be written more than one time while some storage devices can only write once.
Backing up is very important, what it is to make a copy of some sort of computer system, to a storage device that is portable like a CD. Normally backing up of a normal computer system is done by a CD or a DVD, you could as well use a flash drive to make copies of your work to have on the go. Large industries like banks would use magnetic tape due to it’s large capacity and low price. That a flash drive would be one of the fastest ways to make a backup as it is solid state, while all the others type of backing up devices would be optical or magnetic which is slower making this the fastest method and the most simplest for a small amount of data to be backuped.
