Mercury - Many craters on murcury are filled with hardend lava - Murcury was once volcanic - It's molten core cooled and shrank - Solar heat causes Murcurys gas molicules to move faster -Murcury has a very thin atmosphere -The Tempurature may reach as high as 427 Degrees Celcius -Temperatures can drop to about 173 degrees celcius -Murcury rotates every 59 days -Murcury has a week magnetic field -Murcurys iron core is thought to still be molten
The Sun -The cebter of the Sun is called the core. -Hydrogen makes up about 75 percent of the suns mass -Hydrogen and Helium make up about 100 percent of the sun -The boundrys of the suns layers are not distinct -The entire sun is made up of gases -The sun is made up of gases bubbling up from the convective zone. -The Sun has Magnetic fields called sun spots -The number of spots verys depending on the sun spot cycle. -Ions of the sun creat a solar wind -The outer core is called the radiative zone
Venus -Venus is the second planet from the sun -Venus rotates on it's axis once every 243 days -The sun rises in the west and sets in the east on Venus -The average temperature on Venus is 464 degrees Celcius -Venus's atmospheric pressure is almost 90 times stronger then the planet Earth -The clouds on Venus are composed of sulfuric acid -Venus is too hot to support life -Venus is has domes, mountains, and vast lava plains -Carbon dioxcide makes up about 96% of venus's atmosphere -The orbit period on Venus is about 225 days
Jupiter -Jupiter is the first of the outer planets -Jupitar is the largest planet in our solar system -Jupitar rotates faster than any other planet -It takes Jupitar 9 hours and 50 minutes to rotate -It takes Jupitar 12 years to complete it's orbit -The most distinctive feature on Jupiter is the Great Red Spot -The Great Red Spot is a giant rotateing storm -The temperature of Jupiters atmoshereic layers are 160 degrees celceius -Jupiter has lightning and thunderstorms -There is no evidence of possability of life on Jupiter
The Earth -Earth is the third planet from the sun -Earth has an orbit period of 365.24 days -It takes Earth approximently 23 hours and 56 minutes to complete one rotation -The earth is the 5th largest planet -The Earth is the only planet in the solar system that contains water, such as it's vast oceans -Earth is also the only known planet to have the right amount of oxygen, water, and tempurature to contain life -Earth has had an extreamly active geological history -Weathering and erosion have changed and continue to change and shape the land -About 250million years ago the earth's continents consisted of one giant land mass -Earth has only one moon
Mars -Mars is the fourth planet from the sun -Mars rotates every 24 hours and 37 minutes -The volcanoes on Mars are the largest in the solar system -The atmosphereic pressure and tempurature on mars are too low for life to exist -The temperature near the equator of Mars reaches about 20 degrees celcius -Mars is geologically active -Mars has two moons -A system of deep canyons covers the surface of Mars -Fualt zones in the plantes crust are said to have caused these canyons -At the poles Mars drops to a tempurature of 130 degrees Celciieus
Saturn -Saturn is the sixth planet from the sun -It is over half a billion Kilometers away from jupiter -Saturn rotates on it's axis every 10 hours -The rapid rotation of saturn cuases it to bulge out at the sides and flaten on the top -Saturn has 18 moons -Saturn has bands of colord clouds which run parallel to it's equaror -Saturn is less dence then Jupiter -Saturn has a density that is less than the density of water -Saturn is much more complex than all the other planets in the solar system -Saturn has many rings that circle it at the equator
Uranus -Uranus is the 7th planet from the sun -Uranus is the third largest planet in the solar system -It was discoverd in 1781 -Uranus has at least 20 moons -It has at least 11 small rings -Uranus finishes an orbit every 84 years -It rotates once every 17 hours -The tempurature of Uranus is about 7,000 degrees Celcieus -It is bealived to have a core made up of rock and metles -It is also bealived that the temperature beneath the clouds that surround uranus is much higher then the tempurature above them
The Moon -The moon rotates every 27.3 days -A lunar day is 29.5 earth days -The surface is coverd in craters -Also long deep channels , or rilles run through the planet -The dark areas on the moon are ares where solidified lava is present -The crust of the moon is 60 km thick -The side faceing away from earth however is a much thicker 100 km thick -THe mantle is made up of dense rock rich in silica, magnesium, and iron -It is also bealived to have a small iron core -The surface of the moon is thought to have been coverd by a hot molten rock
Neptune -Neptune is the 8th planet from the sun -It takes Neptune 164 years to complete 1 orbit -Neptune rotates about every 16 hours -Neptune has 8 moons -It has about 4 rings -Neptunes orbit varies -Neptune is composed of frozen methane in the form of white clouds -These clouds are located around the equator of the planet -It's atmosphere consist of mosttly hydrogen, helium, and methane -Neptune is named after the roman god of sea
