How has Canada influenced hockey?
How has hockey influenced Canada?
Hockey in Canada
How Hockey was Invented in Canada To keep warm and stay away from flies, Pierre Lapin decided to strap a rifle bayonet to his boots and stepped on the ice. After several tries, he was able to skate across the ice but still with trouble so he then used a crooked stick (which was later known as the first hockey stick) to keep his balance. Pierre later tripped on a beaver bladder and was so upset that he flung it across the ice, in the entrance of a bay with his stick. This shows how hockey fits Canada's environment and how the environment has created and changed hockey.
How Hockey has Affected Canada
• It is estimated that the six NHL teams generate over $200 million annually in taxes paid to or collected on behalf of the government. For example, property, income or entertainment taxes. • Both national and international Canadian NHL teams have increased their home towns’ reputation by a great amount and provided international status. • Nearly 11, 000 Canadians have found employment, either indirectly or directly, as a result of hockey. •When they are young, Canadians are tested to see how well they play hockey •Children are taught the history of Canadian hockey in school and many schools require skates for physical education
How Canada has Affected Hockey
• Because of the weak Canadian dollar, the NHL teams have a disadvantage of about 35% against the United States of America when playing hockey. • The need for tax has led to the fact that 21 American hockey teams are paying a fourth of the taxes that the six Canadian hockey teams most pay.

Hockey has been called "Canada's Second National Anthem." This means that hockey is a part of and affects many Canadians' lives.
On his first voyage into space in 1984, Canadian astronaut Marc Garneau brought a hockey puck and stick along with him. This gesture clearly symbolizes the importance of hockey throughout Canada and one way hockey has had an impact on the country.
"Canada is a country whose main exports are hockey players and cold fronts. " - Pierre Trudeau This quote shows the importance of hockey in Canada.
This picture shows how many people are involved in hockey and how it is a big part of the entertainment in Canada.
