Over 1,250 children will die each year as the direct result of abuse and neglect. The majority of child abuse and neglect deaths are children under five. Nine out of ten abusers are the children's own parents or guardians. Medically neglected children are younger than eight. Children who are neglected, emotionally abused, sexually abused or physically abused usually range from ages eight or older. This blue ribbon symbolizes the bruises of children who are survivors and non-survivors of abuse, rape, statutory rape, molestation, prostitution, incest, and sexual exploitation and all other forms of abuse.
