Beltane Queen and King of May Day
“For once, why did you not listen to me Damien? You were told to stay out of the dark forest for a reason lad, you know they are dangerous and haunted with the spirits of the trees, especially at this sacred time of Beltane blessed be. You know the legend, your Grand Da has told it to you a hundred times and more, and you have heard the rumors around the village. You know that a tithe must be paid for what happened here centuries ago when the world was young and the Danann Seelie Fey roamed free upon Eire.” The man sighs deeply trying to gather his thoughts as well as the strength to continue. The door knocks and a white robed holyman, he knew as Father Sedric from the village entered followed by a green robed stranger from the Seelie court. Neither of them said a word, Father Sedric only nods his head with approval. The sullen man looks lovingly at his son once more and forced a smile. He was looking up at his Da with much anticipation for him to finish. “You know this land beneath our feet was settled by our ancestors blood, sweat and tears many generations ago, we are tied to it just as the Fey magi race is and on Beltane the chosen is revealed, the one to be sacrificed at Samhain. You Damien, my son, have been chosen.” His voice faltered in grief. The old man puts a hand on his massive shoulder and squeezes in silent comfort. “I told you to stay out of the woods. You are to be the next Beltane King, and the forest has revealed to you the next Beltane Queen… your Fey bride. So it must be to keep the peace between our two worlds, the land as we both know, and that of the Fey.” Tears welled up in the man’s eyes knowing his son didn’t fully understand, but in due time he would have to. “Go now, with Father Sedric lad.” Who leads him outside. The Green robed stranger remained. “I share your pain and your loss, ‘tis my daughter that was chosen also.” He held his hand out and as they clasped wrists, words were whispered into his head. “There is a way to end this and save our children, meet me at the crossroads tonight at midnight.” And the Fey left the man to contemplate his final words.
