I Hide Myself Within My Flower
By: Emily Dickinson
I HIDE myself within my flower, That wearing on your breast, You, unsuspecting, wear me too— And angels know the rest. I hide myself within my flower, That, fading from your vase, You, unsuspecting, feel for me Almost a loneliness.
Title: I thought maybe she was talking about her staying at home (flower) and she hides herself from the world.
Paraphrase: I think that the poem was written about her wanting to be near him, so then she goes and hides in a flower. And then she hides herself in the vase, so then when he sees her alone, then her feels sad for her.
Connotation: Imagery. I see a bee, hiding in a flower that he's wearing.
Attitude: I kinda feel like her tone of the poem is love struck. because she hides herself to see him. You know like a little girl hiding behind a tree looking at the boy playing on the swings.
Shifts: I think the first stanza was about how she wanted to be as close to him as possible, and that she likes him a lot. Then in the second stanza, she feels like giving up. For example, when she writes fading from you vase, I basically see that she's leaving, and so then he feels lonely once she does leave.
Theme: I think that the theme of the poem, is that if you like someone, don't hide it from them.
Title: Now that I've read the poem, my first thoughts on the title have change. I think that the title says that I hide just to be close to you.,to see you.
