PLOT
Scout Finch is a little girl who lives with her father, Atticus, and brother, Jem, along with their cook, Calpernia. In the town of Maycomb county, people are struggling to get back on their feet after the Great Depression. Through all this, Scout and Jem have little worries, for they are well off in this crisis. Over the summer, they meet a boy that comes down to the town named Dill, who soon becomes their friend. The threee spend countless days playing and enjoying themselves. But other things also spark their interests. In the town of Maycomb county, there are strange stories of the Radley place, which intrigues the trio of kids. With their own assumptions of the Radley's, they create weird beliefs of what the Radley's do. Through a trial that occurs in an accusation of a black man raping a white women does Scout realize the view of people she has been missing out on and blocking out.
Scout, Jem and Dill always make crazy assumtpions about the Radley's from stories they've heard. Little do know they that it's not the truth and they are failing to understand other people and misjudging them completely.
Favorite Part
My favorite part of the book was when Miss Caroline did not like that Scout was already literate and tried to get her to stop learning at home from her father. Seeing how upset Scout was at the fact that Miss Caroline no longer wanted Atticus to read to her at night made me laugh in the inside. It was surprising to me to see that this little girl was so eager to hear these stories and learn more, yet on the contrary, her teacher was against her learning on her own.
