SCROLL DOWN!!!! The teacher passes out the Valentine's cards, and I know I won't get one. SURPRISE!!! I don't. I go back to the doodle of hearts I'm making, filling in one. There's a bunch of hearts written around his name, Etan. I was always drawn to the way he spells his name. It's unique... the T making a TH sound alone... There's a last minute delivery. Mr. Eppy and Ms. Tennya look at it together, like they did for everyone elses before they tossed them to their blushing recipient. I know it's not for me, so I ignore it. However, within moments, I am distracted by their "Awwwwws" at the card, instead of them reading it aloud like every other valentine. When they're done reading it, I hear Mr. Eppy's footsteps getting closer to whoever is getting that valentine. Some nice card, apparently. His footsteps get closer to me, but I do not look at him. I'm sitting next to Linzy, the queen of our school. She sits up, smiling and showing her perfect little teeth that I just want to rip out of her mouth. Her desk is already completely covered in about every boy in the school's confessions of what she thinks is love. His footsteps stop at her desk. Happy Valentine's Day, Anne. Happy Valentine's Day. I really want to wipe the grin off of Linzy's face. She looks so happy that she's getting the only valentine in the school that makes MR. EPPY say "Awwww" at. Mr. Eppy gives one last glance to the valentine, then he looks at me and hands it to me. ????????????? I have a confused look on my face, and he just holds it, then finally places it on my desk. Sure enough, it is addressed to Anne Hendreson. I stare at it for a while, then I open the card up. There's a long and beautiful poem personalized for me, that shows something WAY more than Linzy's definition of love, which is just lust. This is deep down, bottom of the well, sappy romance novel, The Notebook love. The kind of love that only lovers know about, and non-lovers could never understand. There was also a stuffed heart that said, 'I Love You' in cursive. I held it close to my own heart, reading the poem over and over. I could've cried, both because I was so surprised and touched, and because Linzy was glaring at me. I looked for a signature or a name telling who the tacos it was from, but I couldn't find one. And let's face it, I had no idea who had what handwriting in the school. The bell rang, and I picked up my books and dashed out of the room, crashing into Etan. He was quite a bit taller then I was, so I crashed into his chest, and it was hard, like I had always imagined it. He actually didn't seem to bothered by it, he just flipped his hair back away from his face and flashed me a smile. "I-I-I'm really, really sorry," I stammered. He almost laughed, but said, "No matter," as he bent down and picked up some of my books. I had a feeling over come me, turning me bright red all over my face. My palms were sweating, and I could feel my heart beat faster. I wanted to admit my insane crush for him right then and there, even though I didn't. Like the stupid girl I am, I walked away. "Bye," he said quietly, looking at me as I scurried to my next class. I tried not to look back at him, luckily succeeding. But when I walked into Science, guess who I saw in my seat? Three guesses, not Santa Clause, Not the Valentine's Bunny, Not the Great Pumpkin. Linzy. She had her arms crossed over her chest and a glare towards me on her face. "Look. I know who that card was from, and I'm not going to lie to you. I'm pissed you got it. He probably just sent it to the wrong person, because I know it was meant to be for me. So give me the damn card now, fatty." I almost burst into tears, but instead I pushed her out of my seat, put the card and stuffed heart in my binder, and sat in my seat, right before the bell rang. Linzy rolled her eyes at me, shot me one last glare, and sat back in her own seat. When Science was over, I dashed up the stairs so I could get to my locker and the bus before Linzy could catch me. But then, Etan trotted down the stairs and stopped me. "Can we walk around town for a bit? I need to talk to you about something," he said, thoughhis eyes had a look that said he was very hurried. I told him that was fine, went to my locker, and met him at the door, and we walked out, Linzy completely out of sight. We talked for a little bit, laughing and joking in the chilly weather, until he looked into my eyes and was completely quiet. "Yes?" I asked him, looking back into his chocolate brown eyes. He took a deep breath, and then hesitantly said, "Did you like your card?" I nodded and looked up at him, beaming, knowing what he was trying to say. He then quickly wrapped his arms around me. It had been like everything I had imagined, minus the rivets from his jacket sticking into me. He told me everthing he wrote was true, and he asked me out. I said yes, and gave him another hug, but then he cupped his hands in my face, pulled me close, and gave me a very electric kiss. When he was finished, he looked at me, smiled, and said, "Happy Valentine's Day."
