The Real Face of E- Waste Pollution
E-Waste
In most highly developed countries the average computer is replaced every 18 to 24 months, not out of neccessity but because a new model has come along. Since they have a difficult time finding a new purpose, they most likely end up sitting on a warehouse or basement or even at the bottom of landfills. According to the Grass Roots Recycling Network there were 300 million to 600 million obsolete personal computers in the United States by 2004.
E-Waste is technological trash which requires special practices when being disposed of. It does not, however, always get the special attention it needs, which results in pollution which can soak into the soil and groundwater making it unusable.
Like it or not, we humans produce waste that we personally have to deal with. If we don't take the responsibility into our own hands then innocent people could be affected by OUR pollution.
