Polychlorinated biphenyls (PCB's)
209 chemicals composed of carbon, hudrogen and chlorine. Made between 1929-1979.
USES Cooling fluid in electrical transformers abd vaccum pumps. Fire retardants, adhesives, inks and lubricants.
Harmful to skin, eyes, and other organs. Endocrine disrupter. Carcinogenic possibilities.
Humans gain exposure through contaminated foods and water. Sediments release PCB's into water therefore into our food sources.
Can be destroyed by high temperature incineration and there are PCB destroying bacteria.
