•Teachers pick ten high school students to be AASIS scholars. These students have been identified by their schools as college-able but not neccessialy college-bound. •Each Radford University student who becomes an AASIS mentor gets two mentees; the three group members write letters at least once a month to each other. The college students visit their respective high schools twice during the school year, and in return the mentees visit the college twice for a tour of Radford and to gain insight into college life.
Personal AASIS Experience: This is my first year with the AASIS program and I have immensely enjoyed it. I have learned the extent of the knowledge that my scholars have about college. Many do know a lot about the college application process and some did not know the first thing to do. I was glad that I could share my experience with these students and help them to know that college is an option for them. I am glad that I got involved in AASIS and am excited to teach more students about the college process and help them reach their potential. - Kelsey Lewis November 18, 2008
