Lunar Ilmenite (cont.)
~ The energy released in the nuclear fusion of Helium-3 is converted directly into electricity with a 70% efficiency. This can drastically be compared to the 30% to 40% efficiency of current electric power plants.
~ Estimated quantities of He-3 within the lunar ilmenite have been shown to be capable of providing 40,000 years of the U.S. electrical power generation demand recorded in 1985.
~ The He-3 fusion can alternately be used in direct thrust rocket systems to enable more deep space missions.
More About Helium-3 Usage
~ The Helium-3 reactor process is inherently safe. Meaning the process leads to no accidents and the radioactivity levels are so low that the facilities can be dismantled and disposed of as low-level waste.

Ilmenite & He-3 in Pop. Culture
~ A unique view on lunar mining, extraction, and uses of ilmenite and Helium-3 have recently been shown in Duncan Jones' debut film, Moon.
~ Jones is a COW grad & David Bowie's son! The movie depicts how the Earth is relient on the fuel extracted from lunar ilmenite. It's a wonderful film...I highly recommend it!
